This time, I want to talk about a word I hear from customers quite often.

When people hear the term luxury curtains, many immediately imagine thick fabrics, dark colours, elaborate patterns or curtains that simply look expensive.

But actually…

Luxury does not always mean complicated or over-the-top.

Sometimes, the most elegant spaces are the ones that look simple, but every detail has been carefully considered.

I often notice this when customers show me their inspiration photos.

“Min, I want something like this. It looks like a hotel.”

When we look closely at the photo, there may not be anything particularly complicated about the curtains. The fabric might be plain. The colour might even be neutral. Yet the way the fabric falls, the curtain fullness, the rail position, the curtain length and the overall proportions of the room make the curtains look much more premium.

That is why, to me, luxury curtains are not simply about the price of the fabric.

It is about how every element comes together.

For example, fabric plays a huge role. A fabric with the right texture, weight and drape can create a much more refined appearance. When the fabric falls beautifully from the top all the way to the floor, the entire space immediately looks cleaner and more polished.

Then there is colour.

Many people think that luxury means choosing gold, maroon, dark brown or other bold colours.

But that is not necessarily the case.

Colours such as ivory, cream, beige, taupe, soft grey and champagne can also create a very elegant look. What matters is how the colour works with the walls, flooring, furniture and lighting of the home.

And then there is another detail that customers often overlook…

Curtain fullness.

Have you ever seen two curtains in almost the same colour, but one looks ordinary while the other looks much more expensive?

Sometimes, the difference isn't the colour at all.

It is the amount of fabric and how the fabric is arranged.

The right amount of fullness creates beautiful folds and gives the curtains a richer appearance, whether they are opened or closed.

Then we have the rail and installation.

As I mentioned in the previous chapter, a curtain rail isn't simply something that holds the curtains up.

The position of the rail can affect the overall proportions of the curtains. In some spaces, installing the curtains higher and wider can create a more grand appearance and make the windows and room feel larger.

But again, it depends on the actual home.

Some homes have curtain boxes. Some have false ceilings. Some have air conditioners positioned close to the windows. Others have cabinets or furniture that need to be considered.

So we cannot simply look at an inspiration photo and copy everything exactly.

A luxury look needs to be adapted to the actual space.

I also always remind customers not to focus on just one element.

Expensive fabric with inaccurate measurements may still result in curtains that don't look properly fitted.

A beautiful rail with curtains that are too short can affect the entire look.

A beautiful colour may also appear completely different depending on the lighting in the room.

That is why creating a luxury curtain look actually involves many small details working together.

Fabric.

Colour.

Fullness.

Length.

Heading style.

Rail.

Installation.

And most importantly…

Proportion.

When all these elements are balanced, the curtains can create a much more elegant and premium atmosphere.

And honestly, this is what I love about curtains.

They are not simply pieces of fabric covering a window.

Curtains can change the mood of an entire space. An empty room can feel more complete. A plain room can gain character. And an already beautiful interior can feel even more polished with the right curtains.

“How expensive does my fabric need to be?”

Instead, ask yourself,

“What kind of luxury look do I actually want?”

Do you want a hotel-style look?

Modern luxury?

Classic luxury?

Or perhaps a simple luxury look that isn't too heavy or elaborate?

Once you know the direction you want, the fabric, colour, fullness, rail and installation can be planned accordingly.
